An Interview With Britt Robertson About Tomorrowland

I received an all expenses paid trip to Los Angeles for the coverage of several events for Disney’s Tomorrowland. All opinions are 100% my own.

In Disney’s Tomorrowland, we see a great cast, which prompts incredible acting.  After sitting down with George Clooney while in Los Angeles earlier this month, I had the chance to talk to Britt Robertson, a rising star among us.

In the past, we have seen Britt Robertson on several television shows such as CW’s Life Unexpected and CBS’s Under the Dome.  Recently, she was in Nicholas Sparks’ The Longest Ride, costarring with Scott Eastwood, and now, Tomorrowland.

At the young age of 25, Robertson shows professionalism, respect and poise, to say the least.  After going through a rather lengthy audition process (beginning in November 2012), she describes the moment of finding out that she received the role.

“When they told me that I was Casey, it was like really kind of an overwhelming moment. It’s something that I still remember in my mind as being the most euphoric feeling that I’ve ever had.  I was happy and I was elated and I was crying and I was just so excited. It was such a cool movie to be a part of.  I loved the story so much and the people attached to it. I just knew that it was going to be a changing point for me in my career.”

Which led to us asking about the factors that drew Robinson to the film.

“The story itself is a really sweet, it’s an original idea and it’s something that I had never thought about because the themes of the movie, it really covers future and how we look at our future and how, as a society, we can actually influence our future and make it the world that we want to live in. I thought that was a really powerful message and especially for a young woman to be the lead in a movie like this was really cool for me.”

But she doesn’t just play the lead.  She is the film hero.  So we asked her about that, too.

“Well,  you know, it’s a really great thing to be like the hero of a movie like this.  A Disney film and to be a young woman and carry a movie like that, I found it really intimidating, but luckily Brad Bird was such a wonderful human being and he’s a family man. He understands people on a very real level, so I think he gave me the encouragement to be brave and just take it one day at a time, so that was why I wasn’t too overwhelmed by being the hero.”

Robertson stars with three incredible actors: George Clooney, Tim McGraw and Hugh Laurie.  And while she could have been intimated with greatness all around her, the experience was the exact opposite.

“Working with George, you have a lot of expectations of working with a person like that.  What was so surprising to me is that being around him you see how he’s just completely himself. He hasn’t been lost in the process of becoming George Clooney. He’s still the person that he wants to be.  Working with him, it made me realize you can still be who you want to be in this industry. You don’t have to be tainted by the process or the people. He’s so professional and I learned a lot from him.”

Being a “big fan” of Tim McGraw, Britt Robertson explained she was a little more star-stuck meeting him.

“I love Tim McGraw like nobody’s business. I’m a huge country fan. In fact, when I first met him, I attacked him. I was like “you have no idea how much I love you. I love your music, I love your wife, I think you’re the coolest…”  He was such a sweet, family man. Just hearing his stories about his daughters was really sweet and it was nice to get to pretend I was his daughter for a second.”

Robertson spoke highly of Hugh Laurie, too.  Saying she really enjoyed working with him as well. She describes him as a “book of knowledge”, always giving her facts of life.  She told us that Hugh Laurie is a very gifted musician and she is determined to make one of his shows soon.

Britt Robertson also described working with Raffey Cassidy, who plays Athena in Tomorrowland.  Robertson was touched to learn that Cassidy considered her a role model when she had learned so much from this dynamic 12 year old.  It was definitely a sweet moment!

“Her (Cassidy) professionalism and her spirit throughout the entire film, no matter how long the day was, no matter what they were asking of her, physically and emotionally, she just did it. She did it to the best of her ability and I think that’s a huge lesson for me.”

Britt Robertson has several challenging acting scenes in Tomorrowland.  She has fun with a baseball bat, chugs Coca-Colas, and wades through swamp waters in Florida, on the hunt for alligators… all scenes you surely won’t want to miss!
