My children love to get in the kitchen. Whether it’s cooking, baking, making punch for dinner or creating a healthy snack, they are always happy to help (and eat!)  Since our local farmer’s market has incredible fresh produce right now, we picked up some fruit and couldn’t wait to make Trix Yogurt Fruit Cups.

When school lets out, my children come home ready for a snack.  These Trix Yogurt Fruit Cups are the perfect combination of sweet, healthy and fruity, and I’m happy to serve them up.  Since this snack can be put together in very little time, I let my children help wash the fruit and prepare it for the cups.  I think it’s important to give your children the experience of being in the kitchen and showing them the proper way to use utensils.  Every time they get engaged in the lesson, it opens an opportunity to talk about knife safety and proper food handling.

After our fruit was washed and dried, I gave my daughter a plastic, though sharp enough, plastic knife.  She carefully sliced up the strawberries in preparation for the yogurt fruit cup assembly.

Once it was time to make the yogurt fruit cups, I let my children layer the yogurt, fruit and Trix cereal in tall (clear) glasses.  Make sure the glasses are clear, as knowing which layer of the snack would be eaten next turned out to be a highlight of the process!
